Winners and other entries in OFAC's tree contest

When the Ottawa Forests Advisory Committee decided to hold a favourite tree contest during its annual Fall Forum, it had no idea what to expect. But the response was heart-warming. People of all ages from all over our extended city (and even beyond it) wrote to tell us about their special trees. Choosing a winner was very difficult. Some of the stories brought tears to our eyes. Some of the photos were breathtaking!

But the committee members were unanimous in choosing David Kitz's description of Orleans' Gentle Giant - a "10-storey tall" White Pine tree in a ravine near Jeanne d'Arc Hill in Orleans - as the winner. David Kitz's prize is a tree (of course) kindly donated by Ritchie Feed and Seed. It will be planted in the spring.

During November, you can see the entries at City Hall, where they are displayed in the main hall. Or you can read them here!
